There is a working vineyard two miles from the front gate, and several more within a half-hour. The one thing to know before you plan a day around any of them: most keep short weekend-leaning hours, and turning up on a Tuesday afternoon usually means a locked gate. Check before you drive.
Jump Mountain Vineyard
Two miles away and named for the mountain you can see from the porch. Small, unhurried, and open weekends. We keep a bottle of their rosé available for guests who would rather not make the trip — it is a genuinely local pour and hard to get otherwise.
Rockbridge Vineyard & Brewery
Wine and beer on one site, which settles the argument when your group is split. Straightforward tasting room and easy parking.
Ecco Adesso Vineyards
Small and quiet, with views that justify the drive on a clear afternoon. Worth a call ahead — hours vary by season.
Lexington Valley Vineyard
Closer to Lexington and easy to combine with lunch or dinner in town. A sensible stop on the way back from a day out.
Halcyon Days Cider Co.
Cider rather than wine, and a welcome change if you have been tasting all weekend. Good for anyone in the group who does not drink wine.
Making a day of it
